Canyons – Leading the Charge with Women in Snowsports

Canyons is proud to hire people from all walks of life and is stoked to have women in the majority of its snowsports management roles. We talked to three of our women at the top about how they got there and what it means to be a woman in a typically male-dominated industry. We have Georgie, the Operations Manager at Go Myoko Ski School, Nikki, the Operations Manager at Yuzawa Ski Scool, and Brooke, the new Operations Manager at Nozawa Ski School.

Gunma REFRESH campaign

Season start is finally here

The state of emergency has now ended and many are ready to get out and enjoy the outdoors, pristine nature and REFRESH with an adventure. Canyons are here to help!

2 things:
1. Tour restart
2. Gunma REFRESH campaign

1. Tour restart

Minakami tours will be starting on June 6th. Rafting, canyoning and packraft tours will all be available BUT with a number of Covid-19 protocols in place.  These protocols will reduce the size of tours so you can enjoy a near private guide service!

See guidelines here

2. Gunma Refresh campaign

For all of June any Gunma residents will receive a free Canyons burger lunch (worth 1500 yen) with any tour booking. You can either do takeaway or eat at our spcaious outside dining area. Please let us know you want to use the "Gunma Refresh campaign" when booking.  When you arrive please show proof of your address (residents card or driver license)

We see for the next while "travel local" is an important theme.  Travel local is not just to ease your hunger for travel and fulfill your needs for a mental and physical refresh BUT also is important for the local communities you visit. The money you spend in rural areas supports the livelihood of many. At Canyons we employ locals, source food from local suppliers and work with other local tourism operators. So when you travel local in Gunma you are also supporting Gunma local communities.

Canyons tours restart - Covid-19 guide

At Canyons we take safety and tour quality very seriously. That's why we have created new protocols to be able to run safe and awesome experiences among the current Covid-19 situation.  These protocols are based on regulations, guidelines and best practices from:

Swiss Outdoor Association, International Canyoning Association, Minakami Outdoor Association, Japan Ministry of health, labour and welfare, Gunma Prefecture

We believe by implementing the measures outlined below, we can run small, customized, high quality tours in a safe manner.  We look forward to REFRESHing you all with some well deserved world class adventures!

Season start - update May 5th

Last night Prime Minister Abe announced the extension of the state of emergency in Japan until May 31st.  Canyons will therefore, extend our closure until May 31st.

We currently plan to start experiences from June 6th but this may change depending on the Covid-19 situation.

To increase the safety of operations and comply with best practices, we are planning on releasing new operational procedures before the end of June. This will effect the capacity and timing of experiences, so product information on the site may change in the next few weeks.

Stay safe and hope to see in nature soon!
