GALA YUZAWA

GALA Yuzawa Snow Resort is Japan’s only ski resort with a dedicated Shinkansen (Bullet Train) station, making it one of the most convenient destinations for a ski day trip from Tokyo. You can leave the city in the morning and be skiing on the slopes before 9 AM!

The resort features a wide variety of beginner and intermediate terrain, along with more advanced runs for experienced riders, making it ideal for skiers and snowboarders of all levels.

At GALA Yuzawa, we provide private ski and snowboard lessons for all abilities.

Best Time to Visit

Late January through early March typically brings the best snow — cold temperatures, a deep base, and every lift running. December can have thinner cover on the lower slopes, while late March into April brings softer, more spring-like conditions.

Why Skiers Choose — or Skip — Gala Yuzawa

Candid advice from our team, who've run lessons here for 15 seasons:

• Choose Gala if: you want the easiest possible day trip from Tokyo, well-groomed family-friendly terrain, and English-friendly signage throughout.

• Think twice if: you're visiting on a weekend, public holiday or chinese new year (it gets genuinely crowded), or you're chasing off-piste and tree runs — those are strictly patrolled and off-limits here. For more challenging terrain or fewer crowds, Kagura or Ishiuchi Maruyama are worth considering.

Beyond the Slopes

Non-skiers aren't left out — the Snow Enjoyment Park has sledding and tubing, and the Bell of Love Observation Deck gives panoramic views over the Yuzawa valley. After skiing, there's an onsen bath right in the base building, so you can soak before heading back to Tokyo.

Access Information

The most convenient way to travel to GALA is by Bullet Train. Regular services operate from Central Tokyo to *GALA Yuzawa Station, taking less than 90 minutes.

If you are travelling by car, exit the highway at the Yuzawa I.C. (Kan-Etsu Exit 16), it is then only 3km to the free GALA parking area.
