About Canyons Snowsports

Canyons run ski schools in Nozawa Onsen, Yuzawa, Myoko Kogen, and Minakami. All of these resorts are rich in traditional Japanese culture and are renowned for endless deep powder days.

We offer one of the highest pay rates in Japan based on experience and certifications. We also offer staff accommodation, a free season pass, staff training throughout the season and other perks like discounted or free lift tickets in other resorts and discounted AST (avalanche) certifications.

Nozawa Onsen

Canyons Snowsports School, operating as part of Nozawa Onsen Ski School, offers a remarkable opportunity to experience everything Japan has to offer for a winter season. There are positions available for snowsports instructors, guest services agents and supervisors, lodge management, and snowsports supervisors.

Nozawa Onsen is in the heart of Nagano’s snow country, with a huge average snowfall of over 10 meters a season. The resort offers fantastic terrain with trees, steep runs, ungroomed terrain as well as wide-open groomers with beautiful views of the Nagano Alps.

Nozawa has a reputation for having one of the best snow villages in Japan. It features snow-covered temples, free onsen baths, karaoke bars,  and narrow winding streets littered with restaurants serving classic Japanese cuisine as well as some great Japanese infused western food.

When you apply to work with us, we’ll share much more detailed information about what it is like to live and work in Nozawa. There are a wide variety of positions available, including guest services snowsports instructors supervisors and lodge chefs.


Yuzawa

Located only 70 mins from Tokyo, the town of Yuzawa is home to eight different ski resorts offering some of the best powder, tree runs and parks that Japan has to offer. Based at GALA Yuzawa, Canyons Ski School offers lessons throughout all resorts in the area.

In contrast to its close proximity to one of the world’s most modern capital cities, Yuzawa has managed to retain the unique character that makes Japan such an interesting place. You’ll get to experience onsen (Japanese hot spring baths), karaoke and izakaya (Japanese-style bar/restaurant) while having awesome days on the snow, getting plenty of training to advance your skills and lots of time to socialise with a fun team.

Myoko

At Canyons Myoko, there is an exciting opportunity to take an active role in the shaping of an up-and-coming new ski school.

With Myoko cementing its place as one of the snowiest places on earth, with an average of over 15m of light, fluffy Japanese powder snow, Canyons at Myoko strives to provide the best snow experience anywhere in Japan. Our highly experienced international team of instructors, and the incredible range of terrain, means whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned pro you are guaranteed the time of your life.

The ski school is based in Myoko Akakura, a traditional Japanese town where we have built close relationships with the locals. Akakura town offers a wide range of authentic Japanese bars and restaurants and is one of the oldest established ski areas in the world, with direct links to Tokyo less than 3 hours away.

Minakami

Looking for an unforgettable winter season in Japan? Welcome to Minakami, a hidden powder paradise just a few hours from Tokyo.

Known for its incredible snowfall, natural hot springs and authentic mountain culture, Minakami is home to nine ski resorts and some of Japan's best backcountry terrain. Forget crowded lift lines, this is where you'll find deep powder, friendly locals and a true Japanese winter experience.

At Canyons, you'll spend most of your season working with international school groups, helping students build confidence and discover the joy of snow sports. You'll primarily teach at Hodaigi Ski Resort, with opportunities to work with private guests and at other resorts throughout the region.

This role is perfect for people who are passionate about outdoor education, love working with children, and want to combine teaching with adventure in one of Japan's most beautiful mountain regions.
