* Please note that actual times taken by each Shinkansen vary.

Access from Narita/Haneda

The two main international gateways to Tokyo - Narita Airport and Haneda Airport

From Narita Airport to central Tokyo

Narita International Airport is about 40 minutes from the center of Tokyo by train, but the journey from the Airport into Tokyo is simple. There are a number of services available from the airport:

JR Narita Express: This service takes you directly from Narita Airport to Tokyo Station, where you can transfer to the Joetsu Shinkansen direct to Yuzawa. Regular departures with the journey taking less than one hour.

Keisei Skyliner: This service takes around 40 minutes from the airport to Keisei Ueno Station. At Keisei Ueno Station you need to transfer to the nearby JR Ueno Station* to get the Joetsu Shinkansen - this involves an outdoor walk of about 400m along. This service is slightly cheaper than the Narita Express.

Limousine bus: The journey to Tokyo Station by limousine bus takes 80-100 minutes depending on the traffic conditions. There are regular departures from the airport.

Click here for information on how to get from Tokyo (or Ueno) Station to NASPA New Otani
Ueno Station is the second stop on the Joetsu Shinkansen line to Echigo Yuzawa, about 6 minutes from Tokyo Station - every Joetsu Shinkansen train from Tokyo Station going to Echigo Yuzawa Station stops at Ueno.

From Haneda Airport to central Tokyo

Haneda Airport was previously known as Tokyo International Airport and is located about 30 minutes south of central Tokyo. In recent years the airport has taken on more international flights.

Tokyo Monorail: 20 minutes to Hamamatsu Station. From Hamamatsu Station take the JR Yamanote line to Tokyo Station (5 minutes).

Keikyu Railways: 20 minutes to Shinagawa Station.  From Shinagawa Station take the JR Yamanote line or JR Keihin-Tohoku line to Tokyo Station (10 minutes).

Limousine bus: Buses leave the aiport to Tokyo Station every 30-60 minutes and the journey takes 20-50 minutes depending on traffic.
